White spots on fingernails?

I'm eleven, so don't go overboard with the explaining, but make it detailed. What causes it? Will it do away? When? And how can I take better care of my nails so the spots won't come back??? Thanks! I always check for best answer!White spots on fingernails?
When I took my nail course I was taught that it was caused by damage to the nail while it is forming in the nail matrix (where your nail comes from), I had heard that it was from a lack of calcium, and or Iron when i was a kid but when i was in school my teacher told us that that was a fallacy (in other words its not true). My guess is that you play rough, I had them when i was a kid, white spots aren't going to hurt you so play on and if you don't like them then paint them a pretty colour until your bruises grow out :)White spots on fingernails?
Sometimes its caused by trauma, like if you use your hands a lot and they get caught up in a door, whacked against a table, etc. Just be careful and use a nice clear coat or calcium enriched nail polish.
They say the white spots on your finger nails are how many guys like you! If you really hate them, paint your fingernails.
that means either you hit ur fingernail on a table or somethin OR you need to have more calcium. drink milk and eat cheese. they will go away when your fingernails grow past them. I don't think they go away before that. =D
i dont have an answer to this question, but the same thing happens to me!! i heard its from biting them but i dont know if thats true.
The white spots are nothing at all to worry about. I've had them all my life. They are due to a zinc deficiency in your diet. What you can do it start taking a good multi-vitamin, and this should fix it. Good luck!
telling the truth the white spots on your fingernails is milk you spilled on it while playing shrek super party in the tv room.
Normally it means your zinc level is low.
ahhh my brother and i have those too. my mom says its a lack of calcium but i drink a lot of milk...so i dont understand =P
yes it will go away it is just the nutrition spots in your nails trying to keep them healthy. there really is no way to make them stop coming but drinking milk and having protein and calcium will help!!!! Its completely normal sweetie. =]
They are like bruises. Scuff marks even. They will go away but you have to give them time.
they are sorta like bruises on your nail.s they will go away. they have to grow out. it might take a while. it has nothing to do with the health of your nails. it just happens if you hit your nail or somthing.
drink milk
It's like a bruise that you would get on your arm. It'll go away just like normal bruises do. Best way to keep them away is to paint a strengthening nailpolish on your fingernails and dont be brutal with your hands.
white marks on your nails is generally calcium deficiency , but can also be caused by other things, try adding more calcium to your diet, e.g milk, cheese, yoghurts etc if you dont like these there is a good calcium drink you can get that looks like water, also you could ask your mom or dad or doctor about multivitamins but if you eat a healthy varied diet this should not be needed. if diet isnt a problem then you could ask your doctor.. remember thats what he/she's there for..

i hope thie helps
When I was little my mom used to tell me that whenever I told a lie the ';white lie'; would show up on my nails. hah.

I think the real reason is something to do with vitamins and calcium in your system which make your nails grow. Drink more OJ and Milk.
it has to do with iron deficiency, so if you eat foods with higher iron, they should start to go away, but it takes time, as it takes time for them to grow in.
someone once said it was calcium defficiancy.. i don't know if it is true, but drink milk anyway!

xx
Excessive pressure while manicuring or a heavy blow to your nail can cause white spots to appear. Additionally, inadequate levels of zinc or calcium in your diet can also cause the formation of those pesky spots. Avoid white spots on your nails by following these simple steps.

Improve your diet with plenty of calcium and zinc-rich foods. For people aged 16 years and over, the recommended daily intake of calcium is 800mg, and the recommended daily intake of zinc is 12 to 16mg. Women who are pregnant, breastfeeding or post-menopausal need 1000 to 1200mg of calcium each day.Be gentle when manicuring your nails, especially around the cuticle area. White spots can be caused by heavy prodding and poking beneath the cuticles.

Be gentle with your nails. Protect your hands with gloves when gardening or doing house work or any other kind of labor, and don鈥檛 use your nails to do things like remove staples from paper or open a soda can.
lol

i thought i was the only one

i just let them grow out

they dont go away any other way
Those spots are really a ';scar'; on the nail

whenever a nail gets slightly banged up or something hits it, one of those forms. they're harmless

Because they're on the underside of your fingernail, the only way to get rid of them is to grow it and cut it, until it's gone

to prevent those, simply watch out for ur fingers. If they're nice and healthy, they'll look nice and healthy :)
